Hooray! The school dormitory project has finally come to a completion! In October 2009, Sophia visited the school to see how the children are adjusting to the new place. Now, the orphaned children have a place of their own to live and sleep in. They also have a kitchen, toilet and bathroom located just one minute away from the school. Below are some pictures that will tell you more about their current lives.

This was how the school looked before construction of the dormitory started.

Construction began in May 2009!

In August 2009, the kids moved into the dormitory when the furnishings were completed.

Two separate bedrooms for boys and girls. A local volunteer had kindly helped to build the bunk beds. Currently, there are 8 boys and 7 girls living in the dormitory.

Living room in the dormitory - now the children have a proper place to do their homework, study or read leisurely.

This external structure, located around 50m away from the school houses a kitchen, a toilet cum bathroom as well as a pig's sty. Teacher Ban is rearing a few pigs which can generate income and provide a source of protein for the orphaned children. The pigs' waste can be turned into methane gas (in the biogas digester below the pig's sty) which can then be used for cooking and lighting.

On the hill behind the school, there is a vegetable plot which the children are helping to tend. At a young age, they already know the value of hard work and self-sufficiency.

They work hard, they play hard too! The children enjoy things as simple as a rubber ball, a game of badminton or even a grasshopper. (See picture below.)

Playing with grasshopper after school! (The kids are very good at catching insects.)

Some of the orphaned children posing for the camera.

Many, many thanks to all the donors and supporters! Without your contributions, these kids would not have a proper place to live in. Please remember that your efforts, advice and contributions have helped to put a smile on the faces of these children. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU!

Countless thanks to (in random order) Sister Feng (冯姐), Brother Su (苏大哥), Principal Wei (韦校长), Brother Xun (蕈大哥), Tong Yu (童玉), Wang Xiaojie (王小杰) as well as several other kind and thoughtful friends and acquaintances in Nanning and Dahua. Without their invaluable advice and support, it would have been much harder to turn this project into reality.
